Have you ever felt disappointed in yourself ? Not for the things you’ve done, but for all the things in life you haven’t done. All the things you said you would do, the grand plans you had for yourself and your life. Don’t get me wrong, I’m proud of all the things I’ve accomplished personally and professionally! But, what makes those accomplishments bittersweet is knowing I’m grossly underachieving and not even close to living up to my potential. Whether it’s in business, fitness, being a good friend/son/husband/father etc, vowing to help more people in need, being a better Christian, and the list goes on and on and on. I’ll be dialed and doing great for a period of time on an objective, then idk what happens. Maybe it’s boredom, maybe discipline, lacking purpose ? Maybe all the above and then some ? I’m not quite sure. What I am sure of is I’m great at being consistently inconsistent. I’ll OBSESS on a goal, and once it’s achieved then it’s onto the next shiny object. This is a problem, which I became aware of thanks to the book Atomic Habits. I do NOT lack goals. I lack PROCESSES and SYSTEMS. My goals are short term, typically 3-12 months. I’ve failed to think long term, whereas I should be thinking in years, 2, 5, 10+ years. Here I am at 37, looking back at my last 10 years wondering “what if I had just stayed consistent on that one thing?” How many times have I been on the verge of a breakthrough only to let off the gas and change course? While I could play the “what if” game, it would only be wasted time and energy. I refuse to let another 10 years go by and feel this exact same way when I’m 47. I WILL actually see it through. Who knows, maybe the result won’t be what I had hoped, but at least I won’t be saying “What if”. That I can live with. In the words of James Clear, “You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems”. Also this is part of my #higherupwellnesschallenge courtesy of @HigherUpWellness
