its because its not a 'comic reader' vs 'not comic reader' issue, it is a MEN issue, thats why this issue exists on fandoms of manga anime, music,books, sports etc... as long as men don't hold each other accountable we'll keep on having this conversation non-stop without any change being done

Nearly every comic store I've been in I've experienced being followed or treated passive aggressively. I'm very lucky to have lots of options in my area, including an LGBTQ+ owned store and a woman owned store. But that's unfortunately not the case for every reader out there.

I go to my favorite shop because it’s friendly to girls and the others aren’t. Like. I’m spoiled for choice too with three shops within an hour. I want to make videos examining comics from a literary theory & criticism standpoint, but haven’t BECAUSE of how so many ppl treat girl friends. Doesn’t matter that I’ve been reading Spider-Man for two decades. Clearly I’m a “fake fan” who’s doing it “for attention”

I was at a flea market and found myself in a comic shop. The owner mentioned he also buys/barters so I asked about an old Spider-Man comic and he said “if you find one, let me know”. I told him I had it and a bunch of others from the 70’s and he rolled his eyes at me. I was getting ready to move across the country and needed the money but because he treated me that way I just held onto them.

I’m sorry you have to go through all that. I just saw someone get harassed so bad they had to turn their comments off simply bc they were excited about an Absolute Catwoman figure and wanted to start reading the comic. I am greatful I haven’t really experienced it yet, but the idea that I inevitably will is very disheartening.
