@tanner.proudfoot_weather: Tropical Storm Rachel is currently transitioning into a post-tropical storm. We're seeing shallower convection and shear to the northeast, with a frontal structure forming and drier air wrapping around the southern side. Based on overnight scatterometer data, Rachel's intensity remains at 50 kt. The storm has shifted slightly east and is now moving northeastward at 19 kt. Expect a turn north-northeast with increased speed tonight as it interacts with a mid-level low. Rachel's center is forecasted to move onshore in extreme northern Baja California tonight, then quickly continue north-northeast across the southwestern U.S. on Sunday. The latest NHC track has been nudged east, aligning with recent models. Rachel currently has an asymmetric, shallow warm-core structure and is expected to become fully post-tropical with a deeper cold core in about 24 hours after moving onshore. There's a chance of slight intensification over the next 12 hours due to interaction with an upper-level trough, supported by many intensity models. Weakening is anticipated after landfall, though strong, gusty winds are likely across much of the southwestern U.S. through early next week as the low pressure system moves into the Rocky Mountains.
