@mikes_mountaineering: Utah’s Mighty 5 Series - Part 1: Zion National Park - Angels Landing Kicking off the Utah Mighty 5 in Zion, and I got lucky with this one. I lost the lottery for an Angels Landing permit, but figured I’d hike up the West Rim Trail anyway just to see how far I could get before where the rangers usually check. On the way up, I ran into a family who asked me to take some photos of them. Took their pictures, chatted for a second, and kept heading up. When I reached the start of the chains, there weren't actually any rangers there yet since it was super early, but I didn't want to risk it or do anything shady. Right as I turned around to head back down, that exact same family came walking up. Turns out they had permits, but one person in their group didn’t want to mess with the exposure on Angels Landing. They asked if I wanted to tag along with them. Total stroke of luck. We followed the chains all the way up to that iconic summit ridge looking straight down the center of the canyon. Such a cool way to start the trip. #angelslanding #zionnationalpark #utah #zion #nationalpark
