So the reason why suspiria looks like that is for two big main reasons. Reason number one was that since the film was shot before colour grading was a thing, argento used a lot of high contrast coloured lighting in the backgrounds. He would very carefully place bright ass lamps that were red and blue in colour in various spots to bring out the colours more in the film negatives. And then the film stock was processed using technicolour dye transfers which is sort of outdated at the time but you can bring out the main a lot of the technicolour staple colours like magenta and cyan

Vertigo by Alfred Hitchcock. The colors, the visuals, the outfits, and even THE MUSIC (I know it’s about beautiful looking films but I just want to mention this) put me in this enchanted trance when I first watched it. Never happened with another movie again.
