The residual coal dust from mining, The NCB wanted to keep, So they piled it up on a local mountainside, On the notorious coal slag heaps. Sixty years ago today, This renowned disaster began, In the small mining village, Known across the globe as Aberfan. On that day parents took their children, To school like every other day, They later heard a noise like thunder, As the coal slag heaps gave way. Many teachers noticed the darkness, And told the children to hide, But the school was covered in slurry, With children and teachers still inside. So we all stand in harmony on this morn, And in memory we will pray, For all who lost their lives at Aberfan, Leaving so much sorrow sixty years today. So many children died, Far too young, Taken far too early, As their lives had just begun. We pray for you all today, We pray for you all today.

A day when many local men and the miners in local pits came up from underground at the end of their shift then walked several miles over the mountains to go and help dig to get everybody out. A day where even the hardest of Welsh men cried 🙏

I remember this disaster. I was a very small girl but remember how upset and devastated my parents were. It was a day that Wales and every welsh person will never ever forget.... nor should we. My heart aches for all parents who children's got their wings far too early

I went there it was so heart breaking to see the head stones off so many children who lost their lives it should have never happened they were told what would happen no one listened so heartbreaking always in our hearts god bless may you rest in peace
