Halhul, north of Hebron, is a town of grape growers. On 3 November 2024 Israeli forces shot and killed Naji Nidal al Baba, 14, who played for the town's football club. Of the 1,087 killed to 30 June 2026, almost all were killed by Israeli forces, not by settlers: B'Tselem counts 35 reportedly killed by Israeli civilians and 15 by Israelis of unknown status. Their freedom to move. In 2025 Israeli forces put two new gates near Halhul that OCHA said risked cutting about 31,000 people off the main road. OCHA counted 925 checkpoints, gates and other obstacles across the West Bank in December 2025, up from 707 before October 2023. Their work. A grape farmer near Halhul lost his job inside Israel and turned to his own vines. West Bank unemployment rose from 13.1% in 2022 to 28.7% in 2025. Their land. Settlers set up an outpost at his main plot, soldiers barred him from another, and he lost about 60% of his 2025 harvest. Settler outposts now control about 18% of the West Bank, and Israel has forced out at least 75 Palestinian communities. Their voice. Late in 2025 Israeli forces searched Halhul house to house and took four brothers; charges and release were not reported. Israel has detained at least 60 West Bank journalists since the war on Gaza began. More than 3,000 West Bank Palestinians are held with no charge and no trial. Together, all of it pushes Palestinians off their land.
