@literacylift: Adding a silent e/magic e to the end of a word can change the vowel from its short sound to its long sound. hop → hope pin → pine tap → tape cut → cute plan → plane The vowel and final e work together to represent one long vowel sound, even though a consonant separates them. This is called a split digraph (a_e, e_e, i_e, o_e, u_e). Remember, silent e has other jobs too, so this pattern doesn’t apply to every word ending in e. A simple spelling pattern to practise with older learners! #splitdigraph #phonics #spellingpatterns #adultliteracy #learnenglish
