Werewolves, vampires, dragons, and ghosts exist in almost every culture and mythology on earth in some way, shape, and form and yet *SOMEHOW* people don't think they exist. That kind of overlap doesn't just happen by accident.

The funny thing is, the standard idea of a werewolf (half human half wolf mixture) is kinda modern in comparison. Most cultures, you just become a full wolf, but because of Hollywood, there's a new mixed version. The myth is still evolving in the current day

Third option: furries have always been a thing and some people did not understand what the hell the furries were talking about when they tried to explain themselves.

In Brazil, we have some diferents kinds of werewolves. We have the traditional. a blood curse that turns you into a wereworlf on the full moon or some times whenever u wants (half human half wolf) We have a curse that goes, if u have 6 daugthers and the 7th child is a boy, he's gonna be a werewolf. We have some rituals that turns you into a half human half animal: 1° ritual- u go to a barn were animals stay, like pigs and donkeys, and u roll in the spot on the grund that the animal u want to turn had rolled b4, so u can be a human/pig with a pig's head and tusks or, half human/donkey with a donkey's long face and HUGE DROOPY ears that makes a clap sound when this thing runs, and the classic half human half dog that is hairless and looks EXACTLY like Prof.Lupin from Harry Potter AND we have 2 BRAZILIAN "werewolves" The CAPELOBO, which is a ANTEATER/HUMAN that uses his long tongue to suck your brain out throug your ears And The Yaguareté-abá, this one is from the mitology of native indigenous people, he is a warrior that can turn into a half human half spotted jaguar but there's also a supesed population of this kind of human/jaguar that lives in the amazon florest

most historic accounts of werewolves are almost always men turning into wolves and hurting women and children as a result. I think werewolves and other myths about transformation into a beast are based on male violence

My 13 year old just discovered Teen Wolf, and last year we went to the International Museum of Cryptozoology. We are home schooling this year, so I am allowing her to do a research paper on the history of werewolves from around the world. I also count any and all fanfic as “Creative Writing.”

European werewolf transformation is linked to what was actually epilepsy. The transformation was thought to be stopped by wolfsbane flower or spell chants.
