@purehiking: From rocky alpine ridges to overlooks above Lake Willoughby, these are 10 Pure Hiking picks for exploring the Green Mountain State. Distances are approximate round-trip totals for the routes listed. Allow extra time for breaks, photos, and slippery terrain. 10 — Sunset Ledge via the Long Trail 📍 Lincoln Gap — Lincoln/Warren • Distance: 2.2 miles • Trail type: Out and back • Elevation gain: About 390 feet • Difficulty: Easy to moderate; some rugged footing • Allow: 1½–2 hours Follow the Long Trail south through forest to an open ledge overlooking the Champlain Valley and Adirondacks. A rewarding option for mountain views without a long summit climb. 🍂 Planning tip: Check Lincoln Gap Road access before leaving—it closes seasonally. Bring a headlamp if staying for sunset. Both times I've been on top of Mansfield it was in torrential rain (2 LT thru-hikes). Guess I have to go back on a clear day, eh?
