my grandfathers uncle (a born US citizen) got deported during the mass deportation of the 50s. that is a big reason why my father, my brother and I are 'no sabo' kids. between the "punishments" (abuse) for speaking spanish at school and his family being torn apart by mass deportation, he became desperate to assimilate, and our family lost language and culture.

my great, great grandfather was borned in Santa Maria from the late 1880s. they would migrate from sinaloa and back. and eventually forced out. never stopped traveling back and forth, then my grandfather was born in Santa Barbara. then he was forced out in 1940s and went back for obrero project during world War.
