WHAT HAPPENED TO AISHA BELLO? Do you remember Aisha Bello, later known as Aisha Katung? If you grew up when the evening news was delivered with poise, precision, and professionalism — you will remember her. *There was Aisha Bello!* A woman whose voice became part of the soundtrack of an entire era. A face that defined trust on our television screens. But whatever happened to this distinguished television personality? Sadly, the answer is one that brings nostalgia tinged with sorrow. Aisha Bello passed away on *Sunday, 10th December 2023*, after living a life that left an enduring imprint on Nigerian broadcasting. She was later known as *Aisha Bello Mustapha.* She went from the Newsroom to the hearts of millions. Armed with a degree in Mass Communication and Media Studies from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, she built an outstanding career that encompassed journalism, broadcasting, television production and editing. Her professional journey was one of excellence and service. She rose through positions of great responsibility, including *Assistant Director of News and General Manager of NTA Parliament.* She became a household name for her iconic appearances on *NTA Network News at 9* in the 1990s and early 2000s, as well as her brilliant presentation of *News Extra.* In *May 2022*, after decades of dedicated service to the nation, she retired from active duty. What a journey! As the saying goes, a tree is known by its fruits, and a person by the legacy they leave behind. Aisha's legacy lives on forever in the history of Nigerian broadcasting. For those who remember her, Aisha was not just a broadcaster. She was a familiar face from a memorable chapter in our national story — a chapter many of us hold dear. Although the precise cause of her death was not publicly disclosed, accounts of her final days and the tributes that poured in from colleagues and viewers underscored the deep sorrow felt by all who knew and admired her. She was laid to rest after funeral prayers at the *National Mosque in Abuja on 11th December 2023.* Indeed, death is the great leveller. It draws no distinction between the famous and the obscure, the powerful and the powerless. How many remarkable lives have quietly passed into history while the younger generation remains unaware of the contributions that made them household names? Our history is not complete without the people who helped shape it. Some build monuments with concrete and steel; others build enduring memories with words, character, and service. Aisha belonged to the latter. May Almighty Allah forgive her shortcomings, shower His mercy upon her, and admit her into the everlasting gardens of Aljannatul Firdaus. *Rest well, Aisha Bello Mustapha.* The news may have ended, but the memories remain. credit KadunaBelongToUs /AishaBello NTANews
