i hate when people try to make things into what they’re not just to appear the wokest in the room. The first ever queer representation in avatar was wlw….and the writers fought hard to keep the relationship in their story despite the time they were making it. They did as much as they could. The comics that came after tlok showing korra and asami’s relationship, korra coming out to her parents, and her friends. Not to mention kyoshi and rangi’s relationship in the novels. But now the moment the writers decide to represent mlm as well the fans claim they’re misogynistic. Yet most of them didnt even bother to follow korrasami’s story in the comics. It’s exhausting

aaand you’re correct! especially since everybody thinks the gay couple is cute right away but korrasami still “came out of nowhere.” all the content about them and the confirmation of kya being sapphic is also relegated to the comics which SUCKS. again you can argue for screen time it was 2014 but what about all the years since? and the fact that kuruk is getting a series over kyoshi who is sapphic as well?

The wlw couples were confined to books and comics and never got their on screen time. I’m happy for mlm to get their time on the screen but it’s incredibly disappointing and frustrating to see a mlm couple who we don’t know get their moment before the wlw couples that haven’t been allowed to be shown for years

I think it’s fair to be upset at how fine dirty korrasami was but idk I feel like a lot of yall wouldn’t be saying anything if the couple was straight. You can be frustrated without being weird about the little wins the queer community gets as a whole. while that's true it feels like many are using this to "pick a fight" with mlm rep instead of the fact that straight still consume 95% of rep. if they animated more of Korras story then we would have gotten more wlw rep. I remember being so bitter about how dirty they did korrasami omfg like that shit pmo with no kiss. LOK love life is why I hate messy romance drama storylines cuz if was cleaner then korrasami would have had at least a lil more screen time. messy romance and love triangles steals screen time that could be used on LITERALLY anything/anyone else and I hate it with a fiery burning passion.

I think no one is looking deeper into this either though, wlw take up a majority of animated content, especially content that isn't specifically marketed as romance. MLM is mostly prevalent is SPECIFICALLY romance, or adult content. Like this is both poor for both groups 😭 mlm is often deemed more sexual and predatory in nature which is why it's bigger in the genres it is, and wlw is underrepresented in the romance genre. This isn't a MLM vs WLW thing, it's the fact that all the representation fucking sucks ‼️‼️‼️

I'm a little confused because most canon couples i can think of is sapphic. at least in animated form. i can't think of any animated mlm couples that aren't just side characters but i can think of at least 4 cartoons with main wlw romance plotlines (Adventure Time, Steven Universe, She-Ra, and Owl House.) I don't know how it is in adult media writ large but in cartoons it absolutely seems to skew wlw
