@miaaawuf4km: we put so much pressure on ourselves to have everything figured out by a certain age. we see people our age getting married, moving out, graduating, making money, finding their person, figuring out their careers, and suddenly we start looking at our own lives like we’re doing something wrong. but you’re literally still growing into yourself. you’re learning what you want, what you don’t want, what you’re willing to accept, what you need to change, and what kind of life you actually want to live. you’re allowed to change your mind about things you were once so sure of. you’re allowed to outgrow people, start over, make mistakes, and take a little longer to get where you thought you’d be by now. your age is not a deadline. i feel like we forget that just because we’re old enough to make decisions for ourselves doesn’t mean we’re supposed to know how to make every decision perfectly. nobody hands you a guide on how to be an adult. you’re just expected to figure it out while you’re still learning who you are, and that’s a lot more overwhelming than people make it seem. stop comparing your life to people who are on completely different paths from you. somebody else being further ahead in one area doesn’t mean you’re falling behind in yours. you don’t know what it took for them to get there, and they don’t know what you’ve had to overcome just to get through your own days. some people had support you didn’t have. some people had to grow up faster than they should’ve. some people are starting over after things didn’t work out the way they planned. some people are still trying to recover from things they never talk about. you cannot measure everybody by the same timeline and expect it to be fair. you’re allowed to be a work in progress without treating yourself like a failure. this isn’t me saying you should never hold yourself accountable or that you should stop trying to improve your life. it’s the opposite. you can want better for yourself without constantly making yourself feel like you’re not enough right now. you can recognize that you have things to work on without turning every mistake into a reason to hate yourself. you can be unhappy with where you are in life and still acknowledge how far you’ve come. you don’t have to love every part of your life right now to believe that things can get better. you don’t have to have a five year plan, a perfect relationship, or a clear idea of who you’re going to become. you just have to give yourself the chance to figure it out instead of deciding you’ve already failed before you’ve even had the chance to live. it’s okay if you’re not where you thought you’d be by now. it’s okay if you’re still figuring out what makes you happy. it’s okay if you feel behind sometimes. just don’t let that feeling convince you that you’re actually behind in life. you’re not running out of time just because you’re getting older. you still have life ahead of you, so many versions of yourself you haven’t met yet, and so many things that haven’t happened for you yet. give yourself some grace. you’re learning how to live, too. photo credits to poetrybyanangel on instagram #fyp #lifelessons #growingup #20s #poetrybyanangel
