@thatsecpodcast: Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Ryan Silverfield was asked why he decided to punt late in the fourth quarter instead of going for it against the Tennessee Volunteers. Better question, “Why did you run it on 3rd & 10”?

You’re coaching for a state, fan base, and football team that is incredibly desperate in the worst of ways for just one single SEC win, and you punt

Playing not to lose, instead of playing to win. He had more faith in the punter than the offense. We are so f*cked if he stays here 🤦🏻♂️

lol ok so we punt it 30yards down field from the 20 to put them at what, the 50? Maybe it gets a good bounce and they start at the 35. We are averaging 30yds a punt. IF we hold them and use our timeouts, then they punt it 40 yards. So we are starting at around our own 30 yard line. Pretty much exactly where we were on the 4th down. Makes no sense

If he don’t think that offense can get 10 yards in a single play then wtf make him think they’re going to march 70 yards down the field in 1 minute lol

Sam would never of punted. 4th and 30 he would have went for it. Ryan has no heart no fire in his belly and it shows.

He wasn’t willing to give up that Monday morning conversation with his boss where he says “we only lost by a touchdown”

The absolutely correct decision without a doubt. Far better odds than a desperation fourth and 10.

You take your chances on 4th & 10. Not only should you have plays for those moments but everyone expected you to lose anyway

the offense is horrible the OC should have already been let go by silverfield if he was serious about trying to turn this around I mean serious is he gonna bring that OC back next year if so that answers everyones questions 100%

That was one of the most baffling, cowardly coaching decisions I have ever seen. I was shocked.

I tried to back the guy.i haven't watched a single game all year because it stresses me out to suck so much. In the 25 minutes I watched, we ran it twice on third a double digits, and then failed to go for it on a 4th down. Horrible coaching

Huh? He was assuming a lot. We weren't down 3. We were down 7. I doubt many people thought we should have punted the football. But still not as bad as running for 10 yards on 3rd down. When Marshall is your best player. Coach Petrino wins that game.

I do understand his thinking and choice to bet on the defense rather than KJ and the offense converting that 4th down. However, he could have bet on KJ first and then if that fails, you lose maybe 10 seconds and you can bet on the defense to come up with a stop. Their kicker missed a field goal earlier, he could miss again. I think he just has a serious confidence problem with himself, his coaching staff, and the team. All of which is reasonable considering what we've all seen up to this point. Still got to go for it and put the game in our QB's hands rather than the other teams QB.

@ahsbdisbah: I understand we had less than a 5% change of getting the first down. 3/11 on third down conversions. But we definitely had less of a chance punting and trying to get the ball back and score to tie it up in a minute 30 seconds. Like yeah maybe at halftime you make this move. But at the end of the game when it’s on the line the stats disappear and you just gotta go what needs to be done.

You ran it on third down twice that’s why you can’t convert and your qb is not looking at all his options, I was at the game and there was multiple chances for them to score and you can’t convert from the fumble recovery or the 3 interceptions you got like wtf

He made the right call. If you don't think so then you don't understand football and clock management.
