An Israeli singer's heartfelt tribute to an Indian pilot has captured attention online, bringing together music, faith and an extraordinary story of courage in the skies. Israeli musician Ben Raivitz has performed the Hanuman Chalisa and dedicated it to Captain Smit Machchhar, the Indian Flydubai pilot who helped avert a potential aviation catastrophe during a violent mid-air cockpit attack. The incident took place on September 30 aboard Flydubai flight FZ1073, travelling from Dubai to Tel Aviv with 174 people on board. According to investigators, the flight's Omani co-pilot attacked Captain Machchhar with an axe inside the cockpit, leaving him seriously injured. Despite his injuries, Captain Machchhar managed to unlock the cockpit door, allowing crew members and passengers to intervene and help regain control of the situation. The aircraft subsequently made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Captain Machchhar later revealed that he had recited the Hanuman Chalisa during the terrifying ordeal, drawing strength from the devotional prayer as he fought to survive. Moved by the captain's account, Ben Raivitz decided to learn and perform a portion of the Hanuman Chalisa as a tribute. The Israeli singer, who has studied Hindustani classical music for nearly a decade, shared the performance on Instagram and dedicated it to the injured pilot. Raivitz described Captain Machchhar as an Indian hero whose actions helped save lives and prevent a catastrophe. He also wished the captain a full and speedy recovery. The video has received warm responses from social media users, with many praising the singer's gesture and the message of solidarity between people from different countries and cultures. Captain Machchhar's courage has also received international recognition. Israeli President Isaac Herzog has announced that the pilot will receive the country's Presidential Award for Civilian Heroism after his recovery. As the captain continues to recover from his injuries, the singer's tribute has become another expression of gratitude for his extraordinary actions.
