Packing unprecedented 1-minute sustained winds of 315 km/h (195 mph), the Category 5 storm laid waste to the Visayas region, causing a massive humanitarian crisis. The Storm's Timeline and IntensityFormation: Yolanda formed as a tropical depression on November 3, 2013, in the western Pacific Ocean.Rapid Intensification: Fueled by exceptionally warm ocean waters, the storm rapidly grew into a Category 5-equivalent super typhoon.Peak Landfall: When it struck Eastern Samar and Leyte, it became the strongest storm ever recorded to make landfall.Dissipation: Yolanda continued west across the South China Sea, eventually weakening and dissipating near Vietnam and South China on November 11, 2013.
