@fabrisgassmoney: Her teachers called her "Wriggle Bottom." They thought she belonged in a special school. One doctor saw something completely different. In the 1930s, young Gillian Lynne could barely sit still. She fidgeted, struggled to concentrate, disrupted lessons, and constantly fell behind on homework. Worried, her mother took her to a specialist. While Gillian sat quietly in the doctor's office, he asked her mother to step outside. Then he switched on a radio. The moment they left, Gillian jumped up and began dancing around the room. The doctor watched for a few minutes before telling her mother: "There is nothing wrong with your child. She is a dancer." Her mother took his advice. At dance school, Gillian finally found people who understood her. Movement wasn't her weakness—it was how she expressed herself. She went on to join the Sadler's Wells Ballet and became a celebrated dancer before transforming herself into one of Britain's most influential choreographers. She choreographed Cats, The Phantom of the Opera, and dozens of other productions, helping reshape modern musical theatre. In 2014, she was made a Dame. In 2018, the New London Theatre was renamed the Gillian Lynne Theatre in her honor. She died that same year at 92. The little girl teachers wanted to "fix" had become a woman who changed theatre forever. Sometimes the child who cannot sit still isn't broken. Sometimes they simply haven't found where they belong yet.

I think we all have some of Gillian Lynne in us. We just need the right people around us, to support, recognize and help us produce ourselves sometimes

I taught my second graders ballet. I had been a dancer so it was natural to do. We’d take breaks, get in a circle, put the music on and tap dance. Also do a musical in the spring. Kids can’t just sit all day. 💜🎶

I see students in each classroom like this- children are not cookie cutter productions. They are each one a very amazing STARS! Even the always rebellious one the quite ones or the genius one. Don’t surpressed them that’s all.
