Thank you for sharing Moe's note to you & Homer. 💗 I have always loved handwritten notes and letters. What a thoughtful thing for your children to do! I still have the note I left my Dad on the night before his birthday. Mom & I spent hours making his favorite cookies & filling the freezer with them so he could treat himself to his delight. (His favorite cookie was an oatmeal version with cinnamon, walnuts & chocolate chips. He called them hermits). Dad was working the swing shift that day & wouldn't get home until after I was asleep. After school the next day, I briefly spoke to my Dad. As I passed the open bathroom door, Dad stopped me to ask, "Did somebody step on your tail?" Mom had been irritated with me because I took too long coming out to the car when she came to pick me up from school. HER irritation irritated ME, haha! (I was a 15-year-old ball of hormones). Dad was shaving, with one foot resting on the rim of the bathtub. He gazed into the bathroom mirror. His interest in my mood reminded me to tell him "Happy Birthday, Dad." A few minutes later, I watched him pull on his Red Wing work boots as he sat at the kitchen table having coffee. As he left out our front door, he looked over his shoulder & threw me a wink. Two hours later Dad died suddenly at work. He was just 39. As I paced around the house filled with unmeasurable grief, I spied the clipboard with my note from the night before. On the bottom of my note Dad wrote me his last. He said, "Well I guess when I wake up tomorrow I'll be 39. Thank you for the cookies. Love, Dad." We were note writers in our family. They were informative, sometimes questioning, & always loving. We were an especially close family. I know because I've had many people tell me throughout my 73 years, that they wish THEIR family was as loving as mine. When I was very young, I suppose every family was like ours. They, sadly, are not. We were surely blessed beyond measure! I have every letter my Dad wrote to his mother, usually once a week. I was given them at Grandma's passing. They are so precious to me! Torchy, the loss of Moe is so heartbreaking. Please know that I am praying for you & yours. I love you, Torchy. 💗
