But this doesn't seem like it's a 'Wirtz' problem surely - he's doing the things he's good at. But Isak.. a 9.. dropping deep into that congested area, Munoz a winger being so central. They're not in positions to support the attack or stab home a second ball, which they should be

Great analysis. I think there’s a clear problem by just with wirtz and his confidence but tactically. Wirtz thrives in space and when the ball gets played quickly into him and when he has space to drive in to and play quick one twos. At Liverpool so far he’s been looking to play in the left 10 which is his best position but it always looks so congested. He’s struggling physically and finding the balance between technical quality and strength/speed. He’s been creating chances but getting unlucky with end product.

Ok, so, how does this explain his inability to do anything when he’s got open space ahead of him? It’s all well and good cherry picking instances where it’s contested in front of him. I’ve lost count the amount of times he’s received the ball in space with clear ground ahead of him and he’s either hit a weak shot, hit a weak pass, or made the wrong decision.

But a £100m should know how pass well and not to pass when there is literally no one there. I wish him all the best, but he seems to be overpowered by defenders or lacks that first touch in tight areas.

I think you’re forgetting how compact the opponent’s defence play against Liverpool especially the smaller teams. You have take account of that in your analysis too.
