"Your Nervous System has left the chat"... this is a 945 lb combined lockout hold for 1 minute, clearly a beginner-friendly 5 pm on a weekday exercise... I've got 695 lbs on my back using a @_marrs_bar (which is the BEST bar for this kind of stuff) and 250 lbs in my hands. You can see in the video that I start shaking/twitching pretty much immediately. This is because of the combined hold. I don't shake like this with weight just on my back. This was actually a load I've never done with this combo setup before and my nervous system had to figure it out on the fly...which manifests with shaking. Overall, static hold training is amazing for developing connective tissue strength and high threshold nervous system activation. As insane and potentially injurious as it LOOKS, stuff like this is actually one of the main reasons I DON'T get injured from some of the crazier stuff that I do. Weights like this take years to work up to but in my opinion, static holds can be a gamechanger for injury prevention and whole-body strength and resilience development. If you wanted to try static holds, I would recommend setting up in rack with the rails set just below lockout squat height and using your current 1 rep max. The bar should be set on the rails. Stand up and just hold that on your back for 1 minute, then set it down. Rest 2 minutes then repeat for 2 more sets. This is a good introduction to static hold training and will give you an idea of what your body is capable of for these. You can increase weight regularly from there as your connective tissue adapts and gets stronger (it does take more time to adapt than muscle so consistency over time is important rather than trying to max out weight right away). Heavy, compressive loading on a regular basis is one of my real secrets for staying as strong as I am (and building an adamantium skeleton!). --------------- Got a lagging muscle group or exercise?
