not a microbiologist but fluent in science. because you're boiling the liquid over a long period anything pathogenic that was living in there (fungus , bacteria, etc) is dead. assuming the bottle you're placing it in is clean there's really not much opportunity for anything new to get on there you could be extra safe by putting some alcohol in the bottle and giving a couple of sprites to also clean the mechanism before using it for the summer water
