@juliaa120230: I admit to doing NONE of these things officially… except the one about contacts and now my eyes are messed up forever #tiktokmademelearnit #learnhistoryontiktok #recession #economy #millennial
At least in 2008 yall still had fast food dollar menus, gas was cheaper, and you could rent a one bedroom apartment by yourself on a minimum wage job 🥲 it’s a whole other beast these days.

Yes to these but don’t forget that camera surveillance was much more limited in 2008. Make sure you’re aware of your surroundings before trying out any new tips a tricks.

That rich neighborhood trash day thing is how I furnished my first apartment! I still have some really cool bookcases and bakers shelves I found

I never bought trash bags, paper towels, or condiments. We were all playing the CVS and point games all over town to get stuff for 5 cents.

I knew someone who would do the double money back guarantee at grocery stores by buying bad meat/produce on purpose and returning it later and getting double their money back

Learn to trade services with your friends. Do you have a friend that cuts hair, and you're good at cleaning? Trade a hair cut for some housework. Also, learn skills that you can use, like how to repair and make clothes. I got really into fixing my own clothes during the last recession.

I just ate all my 3 meals at work because I worked at a restaurant - injad coffee in the am, with leftover dessert. Croutons and tomatoes from the salad bar and then I'd get 50% of meal and take that hole for dinner usually lasted 2 days

Better yet, there was a specific order of buttons you could press on laundromat digital washers to get free washer/dryer cycles. I knew my dorms/apartments

I used hotel breakfast often when I was in my early 20s to survive! This isn’t a devious hack haha but the local library will often have free tickets to the museum or local sporting events as long as you have a library card. Some free life entertainment.

We used to stake out little Caesars and wait for them to throw out the leftover pizza at the end of the night. We also would call friends we knew were working closing shifts at restaurants to collect leftover food that was about to be thrown away

Now cameras would make so much impossible 😭 I was 11 but was poor before this and a told of these people who I grew up around did to survive even pre 2008. Another good one is brining an empty salt/pepper container to restaurants and swap it wout for a full one (obviously making sure the shaker matched the one you swapped) works for ketchup too 😅
