@unlocking.the.myst: Devon Sawa Admits He Once Hated Talking About Casper, but Now He’s Made “Peace” With It Devon Sawa, 48, says Casper’s legacy has lasted far longer than he expected. In the 1995 film, he played the human version of the friendly ghost. His part was brief and came near the end. But his “Can I keep you?” line, opposite Christina Ricci, became one of the film’s most remembered moments. For years, Sawa struggled with all the attention. Fans and interviewers kept returning to the same movie. “There was a time in my life I was like, ‘I don’t wanna talk about Casper. How dare you? I’m a thespian,’” he told PEOPLE exclusively. Now he says he has made “peace” with it. “I gotta embrace it. It’s why I’m here. It’s what got me here,” he said. He also admitted the movie will always follow him. “It doesn’t matter how cool the project is, I will always have to say, ‘Can I keep you?’ to somebody at some point,” he said. Casper earned nearly $291 million worldwide. It also got a theatrical re-release in 2025 for its 30th anniversary. Now Sawa is in another supernatural world. He stars in Coven Academy, a Disney series set at a magical boarding school in New Orleans. He plays Mr. Cole, a warlock professor, alongside Tiffani Thiessen and others. He hopes the role makes a lasting mark on a new generation. “Hopefully in 20 years, people will be like, ‘Oh, Mr. Cole,’” he said. “And I won’t be able to shake that either.” Is there a role you’ll always remember an actor for? #new #casper #covenacademy #christinaricci #celebrity
