I liked the idea of having her being abusive in a more subtle manipulative way, but that doesn’t mean sacrificing a lot of the abuse. I was specifically disappointed they omitted most of her obsession with modesty/virginity which was core to the story(her blaming and fearing Carrie for her blooming womanhood bc of her own sexual shame). They also toned down a lot of the religious fundamentalism in favor of a more “nutty conspiracy theorist helicopter mom” vibe which didn’t work very well imo. Which is a shame bc I think the actress did a great job with what she was given.

I feel like this series completely forgot the point of her character is supposed to be religious drama and how that can cause generational harm onto women. It’s really annoying to me that the series purposely goes out of a way to make the White family as innocent as possible.

When I tell you I’ve been watching this movie since I was 12 and only just a couple years ago i discovered this shot. Literally gave me chills. She was so unpredictable and that’s what made her scary.
