@nickribaudo6: Capitalism hollowing out the population’s ability to have kids while simultaneously needing more factory workers. Quite the own goal. #news #kids #childfree #politics #economy

Daycare costs is why my partner was basically forced to stay at home. I'm happy I have my kiddos but it's literally inhuman how much it costs.

I have two amazing children and it’s very expensive, I’m in a union making more than average for my area and I have to work 60+ hours a week to live comfortably. That’s only because my union fought for double time and overtime bonuses. Without my union job I would need 3 regular jobs. Until our labor gets adequately valued people won’t have kids on purpose. That’s why they are “pro life”, really just pro future slave to capital.

There are wayyyy too many reasons to me as to why NOT to have children. It creates way too much sacrifice. I honestly think it’s always been a scam. Especially for women.

Back in 2005, between Goddard School pre-K and before and after school care at the YMCA, I was paying $1,600/mo. I quit and became an at home Mom, because that was my mortgage payment

it why I see things like cloth diapers making a come back not because of environmental issues but because they're cheaper long run

the daycare my wife works at, the lowest tier of three cost's $1500 a month. it cost more if you want them to provide diapers and food.

Even if Congress passed federally funded childcare and federally paid family leave laws, I still wouldn’t want kids lmao.

I was apparently a boujie baby and needed soy formula. I can’t imagine how much I’d cost today as a premie twin with digestive issues 😭

bought a house, got a dog, everyone asked us when we were having kids. never. honestly I can't even imagine affording kids in this economy, and I can't guarantee they'd have livable wages on the other side of it if we managed to raise them. in the end, it has become a time and place where kids just are not tenable.

You'd think the ways by which capitalism destroys itself would be more subtle and not just like "make it impossible for people to have and raise kids"

My son was in the NICU for two weeks cause he came early so he was fine they were just observing and the bill was 450,000 in Texas. Thankfully my insurance covered it and his mom works in childcare which helps cover the daycare but it’s still crazy expensive. That being said my son is my best friend and every day I get to spend watching him grow into a young man is irreplaceable. So there’s definitely pros and cons

so I was 27 the year I got married and my husband and I didn't have our kids until I was 34. we bought the house, did the traveling, we said for many years that we weren't going to have kids but something changed in our 30s and we really wanted that other person to take care of. there's definitely been bumps in the road but we've been able to maintain our standard of living through it all

I have 2 kids and it's not that much. the most expensive part is daycare which is pretty much over at 5-7. they don't eat much food until like 12 lol

i have like a million reasons for not wanting kids but the main ones right now are that i'm in poverty, only in my early 20s, i would not be good at it, and kids are treated horribly where i live. i would not judge people for wanting kids but it does surprise me just how many people are down to immediatedly marry and have children when they just became an adult, do not have many resources, or the life experience i think is typically needed

And all of this is assuming that your kid would be healthy and not have any problems, we got lucky that our daughter has been healthy so far because we’re barely holding on by a thread
