It is known as the Durupınar formation—a roughly boat-shaped geological feature located near Mount Ararat, the region traditionally associated with the story of Noah’s Ark. From above, its outline can look eerily similar to the remains of an enormous ship buried beneath the earth. And that resemblance has fueled one extraordinary question: Could Noah’s Ark still be there? The biblical account says that after the floodwaters receded, the Ark came to rest upon the “mountains of Ararat.” Centuries later, explorers and researchers began searching this remote region for physical evidence.
