@mrwolfusa: Why does everyone wear black at funerals? 🖤 Most of us never question it. But nobody ever had to wear black. Someone just made it the rule. Here's the short history: ⚫ In ancient Rome, people in grief wore dark wool togas. Dark clothes for grief were already old. ⚫ For centuries after that, formal black mourning clothes were mostly for the wealthy. For poorer families, it was simply too expensive. ⚫ Then in 1861, Queen Victoria lost her husband, Prince Albert. She wore heavy black for years, and much of her country followed. ⚫ Soon there were rules about how long, how dark, and who had to wear it. The cost even became a way to show status. ⚪ And in other places, grief looks different. In China and India, white is the color of mourning. Grief never needed a color. But rules like this can make us afraid to be the only one who didn't follow them. That's the dress code, swallowed. So is wearing black wrong? Not at all.
