@earthsignalofficial: A Hurricane Can Release More Energy Than a Nuclear Bomb A fully developed hurricane releases an astonishing amount of heat energy as water vapor condenses inside its thunderstorms. NOAA estimates that this heat release can be equivalent to a 10-megaton nuclear bomb exploding about every 20 minutes. That comparison does not mean a hurricane behaves like a nuclear explosion. Most of that energy is released gradually as heat through condensation, and only a small fraction becomes the mechanical energy of the storm’s winds. It’s one reason tropical cyclones are such enormous natural heat engines, drawing energy from warm ocean water and redistributing it through the atmosphere. #Hurricane #Weather #EarthScience #TropicalCyclone #EarthSignal
