This! I always get compliments like “your daughter is so well mannered and well behaved”, but when they see me parent they tell me I’m too strict. For example if someone gives her a candy and she doesn’t say thank you, I make her give the candy back and try again. Sure she’s uncomfortable for a second but she still gets candy and learns her lesson. But people will say to me “She’s just a kid, it’s ok” and it annoys me a little.

Adults are overcorrecting their own parents’ strict parenting, making them passive. They’ve moved to the entire other end of the scale. kids are literally blank slates and If you teach them balance, they’ll likely retain that balance.
