She’ll hear it from me, and she’ll see it in the way I show up. ❤️ I might come home with dirty boots, tired eyes, and a whole lot on my mind, but when she starts telling me about her day, I want to be the dad who listens. What seems small to me might be the biggest thing that happened in her world. I won’t get everything right. There will be days I lose my patience, say the wrong thing, or wish I’d handled something better. When that happens, she deserves an apology and a dad who makes the effort to change. Being her father doesn’t mean I’m done learning. I want her to know she can call me when she’s proud of herself. When she’s scared. When she’s made a mistake and doesn’t know what to do next. She shouldn’t have to rehearse a conversation before asking her dad for help. The early alarms and long hours have a purpose. I want to give her a good life, but I also want to be there to share it with her. Sitting beside her on the porch. Laughing in the truck. Letting her help with something that takes twice as long with those little hands involved. One day she’ll be grown, making her own decisions and building a life of her own. I hope she carries the confidence that comes from knowing she has always been loved, and that coming home never requires an explanation. As long as I’m breathing, she has me.
