@thealima2: HER PROTECTION CANNOT WAIT. This International Day of the Girl Child, A Girl At A Time Sierra Leone stands behind the call to end child marriage and invest in girls’ rights. That investment must include protecting girls from female genital mutilation (FGM), abuse and every barrier that takes away their freedom to learn and thrive. As we continue to demand an explicit law against FGM, we must also act today. Parents, teachers, community leaders and neighbours all have a responsibility: listen without blame, support girls’ education, celebrate without cutting and seek help when a girl is at risk. Girls should never have to carry the responsibility for preventing their own abuse. Protection should not depend on who you know. Watch our animation and choose one action: 1️⃣ Listen to a girl’s ideas. 2️⃣ Support a girl to stay in school. 3️⃣ Start a safe conversation about ending FGM. 4️⃣ Learn where to seek protection. Which will you take? Comment 1, 2, 3 or 4. Please keep children’s identities and personal experiences private. YES TO BONDO CULTURE. NO TO FGM. Our daughters deserve safety, dignity and opportunity, today and every day. A Girl At A Time - SL #DayOfTheGirl #EndFGMSL #EndChildMarriage #InvestInGirls #AGirlAtATime

@Mende Queen - I do not usually respond to anonymous or private accounts. However, I have shared your comment publicly so others can see what you have written. If you identify yourself, I am happy to communicate privately, provided the conversation is respectful. I have zero tolerance for abuse. Girls deserve education, healthcare and financial security. None of these should come at the price of their bodily autonomy. Your reference to “vagina cream” is degrading and trivialises a serious conversation about children’s protection. Bondo’s cultural identity can be preserved without FGM. Calling an institution private does not place its practices beyond scrutiny. Turning eighteen does not automatically remove family pressure, threats or fear of exclusion. Free choice must include the freedom to refuse without punishment. I reject the suggestion that our advocacy is bribery or “selling out”. We are calling for girls to grow up safe, respected and free from cutting. YES TO BONDO CULTURE. NO TO FGM.
