Showgirl has the same DNA as Reputation. On Reputation was an album where she " I am going to make music that I like, And I'm going to tell you a story about my life. You can decide what's true." and then she just let it sit there. everybody clowning for reputation TV should really sit down and have a look at reputation 2.0: the life of a showgirl. because they are the same story in a different font

I think it started with TTPD, then with Showgirl and Encore it is more pronounced. There is a direct line that can be drawn from But Daddy I Love Him to Cleveland that, to me, reads as her being over caring about the criticism she gets.

I actually love the way she takes criticism and says ok fine. Try this. And the haters still hate! People hated TTPD because it was too lyrically dense and sad so she gave us TLOASG and well, you know. I’m fine because we keep getting amazing albums from her

I feel like if you don’t reinvent yourself each time your music gets boring. You are easily forgotten. For example Green Day doesn’t sound exactly like the did when they made dookie. Their albums have been different time after time and that’s why they are still around.

a lot of the criticism for showgirl was blown wayyy out of proportion by the bot farm attacks. it's really a very well-written album and completely in line with the key stylistic elements that she's built over the course of her career

that's how i felt about it. shes doing what SHE wants. she learned finally, nothing she does will ever please everyone. shes a super talented artist and should trust herself more(which it seems she is)

Idk I think her taking notes from professional critics about her work is part of why albums 1-11 were all so excellent and innovative. Taylor creates to express herself, yeah, but she also openly cares about being the best (as she should). I hope she listens to the critiques for TS13.

Agree!!! She has realized that she will not appeal to everyone. She is focusing on the fans that love it and her own love for it while also keeping her foot on the necks of her haters. Before Encore was released, people who didn’t like the album thought she was doing it to bring back the fans that didn’t like it originally and she didn’t, she doubled down. 😂 I love her more because of it

you are absolutely tf right and that alone will cement this album as one of her longest standing albums. that's a core wound that she's carried with her since starting out. her healing that need to be perfectly "right" and "liked" is the hardest habit to break. I'm proud of her, and I had the same thoughts you voiced them perfectly.

I disagree. She didn’t have to change anything stylistically, just tweak the writing. Sonically there’s nothing wrong with the record. I think it’s very beautiful, she could just given the writing another go. But it is what it is. She’s happy with it! I’m not gonna sit here and berate her for doing or not doing something!
