That little chunk of pressure treated wood is useless. All it’s gonna do a split. Should just make the whole stud to the floor.

carpenter here. we don't use screws...not even structural screws, because screws break and nails bend. your house moves throughout the year. bendy nails allow wood to flex and move. screws are more likely to have failures.

any headers over 6' should have to king studs and 2 jack studs at minimum

For everybody worried that she needs to go underneath to support them? That sure looks like concrete to me. And I doubt she would’ve put a seal gasket down if she was attaching to wood with structure underneath.

put double jack and king stud on both sides just cause its such a big opening

Why couldn’t you just let the jack stud sit on the floor, instead of using the small block? Honest question

think you also need a permit and maybe an engineer to sign off

Its not just a good idea. Its code. Possible 3 jack studs depending on the bearing load above.

Omg get a structural engineer out to evaluate ASAP. You do not cut load bearing walls without first properly evaluating how far you are able to span and how much column strength you need from your framing. This isn’t fixing it unless you’re able to verify the loads on those studs. And unless you’re able to calculate the total loads including dead and live loads and snow loads you have no business doing this without at least some consultation. It’s not like putting in a new door but you keep the majority of the wall in place.
