Something tells me this has been going on for decades, it’s just finally coming out now. These fraternities have been degrading the reputations of universities forever. Am I glad they’re speaking out? Absolutely - but this isn’t a new problem.

So, since when do college universities get to have their own separate government and policies that, apparently, allow them to operate entirely outside of the law?! Why do they have their own “police departments” at all?! If that’s what’s allowed this to happen, why are we still allowing them to operate independently at all?!

When I was in college, I had female professors warning female students to not go to or involve themselves in any way with Greek life all together. I didn’t get anywhere close to Greek life and something like the Cornell rape STILL happened to me. And that’s just one of my experiences where I was Jane doe. It’s been so-called friends, family members, religious leaders, teammates, people in positions of power, literally anyone it could be. This is such a widespread problem across every single demographic and environment, I don’t even know how we start to end this across the board beyond killing all rapists (and the people who protect them) and instituting a matriarchy.
