Fr if they were real they wouldn't have any weaknesses. No garlic, no sunlight, no stakes, and no holy water. Future illustrations made those concepts.

I’m pretty sure the stake thing is from old Balkan vampire stories where they’d drive stakes into corpses suspected of being vampiric, but those stories would also sometimes have people behead the bodies as well I think

Wooden stakes were used way back when to pin suspected vampires into their coffins back when people didn’t understand the natural decomposition process. When we dig these burials now as archaeologists we call them vampire burials but not entirely sure how that made its way to changing the end of Dracula

Fun fact! The reason behind the wood stake is because eastern Europeans often would quite literally nail down corpses they thought were suspicious of being a vampire not because they thought it would kill them but because it literally just pinned them to the ground.

Also wasn't the origin of the wooden stake not that it killed them, but that it pinned them to their coffin?

the wooden stake thing was just a method of pinning a vampire down long enough to get something that would ACTUALLY kill them.
