My personal theory is that the Premier League cannot afford to lose Man City, and I’m not talking about football alone. 😂 City are one of the biggest reasons the Premier League has become a global product. The Pep era brought a level of tactical football, dominance and standards that forced every other club to evolve just to compete. Take City out of the equation and you lose one of the league’s biggest sporting attractions, one of its biggest rivalries and a team that has set the standard for elite football for years. Now imagine the legal, financial and reputational consequences of relegating a club of City’s size. Sponsorships, broadcasting value, commercial partnerships, potential compensation claims from rival clubs and years of legal battles. It would be an absolute nightmare for everyone involved. And let’s be honest, the irony is that City are playing some of the best football in the country while this case is unfolding. You can hate the club, but you cannot deny what Pep’s team has contributed to the standard of football in this league. MY SPECULATION? A negotiated financial settlement or another sanction that avoids relegation could be a more attractive outcome for the league than a decision that triggers years of litigation and damages the competition’s global image. That DOESN’T mean City are above the rules or that relegation is impossible. It means the consequences of relegating them would be enormous, and the Premier League has to consider the wider implications of any punishment. The real question is whether the Premier League is prepared to accept those consequences to make an example of its biggest modern sporting powerhouse. 👀💙
