Sometimes we get so in love with flowering shrubs that we forget to mix in some evergreens. I've put together a few smaller globe type evergreens that can fit in most gardens. Firechief Thuja Great color that changes a bit with the seasons that gives you an option other than green. Mature size is about 3-4 feet in both Width and Height. Full to part sun, but more sun produces better color. Rheingold is a similar option. Little to no pruning needed. Tator Tot Thuja Good choice for small areas with mature heights of 1-3 and similar widths. From the Proven Winners Collection. Plant in Full to Part Sun. Danica Thuja Mature size is around 3x3 or smaller. Slow grower. Full to part sun. Too much shade can cause thin or sparse growth at the bottom. Hetz Midget would be a similar option. Freedom Boxwood NewGen Boxwoods are a great option as they are more resistant to diseases and pests. Freedom gets to about 3.5 feet tall and wide. Not a fast grower but faster than most boxwood. Now a Proven Winner. Adapts well to different amounts of sun. A similar option would be the slightly larger Independence Boxwood. Liberty Belle Boxwood Another great NewGen Boxwood. Smaller than Freedom, at 2 ft tall and 3 ft wide. Again, resistant to Boxwood blight and leaf miners. Works in part shade to sun. A great option would also be Little Missy Boxwood. Hoogendorn Holly Hoogendorn Holly and other Japanese Hollies became popular when Boxwood Blight came through about 10 years ago. Its height is about 3 feet. Other options would be the smaller Helleri and Soft Touch Holly. Full to part sun. I do prefer the similar sized boxwoods as I've seen dieback in colder climates. Inkberry Holly The picture is the Shamrock variety, but there are some other great choices like Gembox. Anna's Magic Ball Thuja Great for a shrub that isn't green. Mature size should be around 2x2. Pics are not mine #garden #evergreen #shrub #landscape #landscapingideas
