Its current label warns that treated pigs may be more likely to become injured, lame or fatigued during handling and transport. Hyperactivity, anxiety and aggression have also been reported. The EU prohibits this use, and China requires ractopamine-control programs for U.S. pork imports. Taiwan has allowed imported pork within specified residue limits since 2021. The familiar 60–80% figure is an older estimate of U.S. pigs receiving the drug. Major processors later moved away from it, so it can’t tell us how common its use is today. FDA still considers its permitted food-residue levels safe. European reviewers have challenged the evidence used to set safe intake levels. Animal-welfare risks and human risks from food residues are separate questions, and these restrictions do not amount to a blanket ban on American pork. #pigs #health

I've limited the amount of pork I eat in general purely for morality reasons as no pork in the US is humane and it seems I was right to do so. Mostly birds and seafood for me going forward with some beef once in awhile.
