@precisioncaremedical: Why does your shoulder feel so stiff that you can barely lift your arm? 💪 One possible cause is frozen shoulder, also called adhesive capsulitis. This condition develops when the connective tissue surrounding the shoulder joint, known as the joint capsule, becomes inflamed and thickened, restricting movement. Patients may experience significant stiffness, pain, and difficulty with everyday activities like getting dressed, reaching overhead, washing their hair, or reaching behind their back. Occupational therapy can help patients manage these limitations and gradually improve shoulder function. Treatment may include gentle stretching, range-of-motion exercises, hands-on techniques, and progressive strengthening as movement improves. An occupational therapist also works on functional movements that patients need in daily life, helping them adapt activities while their shoulder is recovering. One important thing to understand is that frozen shoulder often progresses through different stages. During more painful stages, forcing aggressive stretching can make symptoms worse, so exercises should be adjusted to the patient’s tolerance. Recovery can take months, and progress is often gradual. The goal of OT isn’t simply to stretch the shoulder. It’s to restore useful movement, improve strength and control, and help patients return to everyday activities with less discomfort. #occupationaltherapy #painrelief
