From what I have seen online from multiple sources the “no soap on cast iron” is a relic of a notion from back when soaps contained lye. The lye would eat away at seasoning and cause it to wear down prematurely. Personally, I use dawn dish soap and a soft sponge on my cast iron skillet every time I use it and have not needed to reseason it in quite some time. Dawn doesn’t contain lye and I avoid the use of a scouring pad.

we grind cane every year in Erhardt, Sc. we use the same size pot but we clean ours with wire brush on a side grinder then grinding wheel. It'll make it shine like new

Get a grinder with a wire brush wheel on it. As long as you’re gonna season it when you’re done it shouldn’t hurt a thing.

Need to see about a per diem package, a glass of lemonade or something 😂 Good helpers otherwise. Idk why people don’t get their kids out and let them help like you do with your little ones. When the good lord finally blesses me with kids of my own I’ll be doing the same thing with them. Good job dad ! 🔥
