@twoparentsandapod: Your toddler isn’t being TERRIBLE!! They just realized they’re a separate person from you. Their brain is firing on ALL cylinders. They want to do everything, feel everything, say everything. But their words and motor skills haven’t caught up yet. So when they can’t tell you they want the peanut butter, it comes out as a meltdown. That’s not a BAD KID. That’s a brain working overtime with the wrong tools. The reframe: terrible twos → TERRIFIC twos 🫡 Save this for the next tantrum 👇 #twoparentsandapod #toddlerlife #toddlermom #parenting #momlife
My boss once told me, little kids = little problems. Big kids = big problems. Enjoy the days/stages you think are hard now because raising teens and dealing with all that comes with it, is not for the weak …and you’ll long for the days where the wrong popsicle color was the biggest issue ❤️

I raised a few kiddos and I have a good size amount of grandkids and I haven’t had experiences and difficulties that I would put the word terrible in front of an age. I think if you approach it with the thinking, that’s the things they struggle with have to do with development than you having an easier time.

I taught 3 year olds and they were pretty easy... they are still baby enough to forgive the craziness, but theyre also able to do so much... I had 11 boys and 6 girls in one class and it was very much controlled chaos

Talk to your kids, folks. Tell them what you’re doing. Name the item you’re picking up, look them in the eyes when you’re talking to them, let them feel your mouth when you’re talking. I know it can be hard and we’re all so busy, but I promise you, it really really works. They can tell you why they’re upset, happy, etc., in their own way, and it stops so many of their frustration tantrums. I did this instinctively 20 years ago with my son. He was a happy wee darlin then and a happy big darlin now ❤️

I waited and waited, fearing the change that everyone said will happen. My daughter was an amazing easy going full of light baby. Everyone said. “Wait until the Terrible twos!” Every age she has turned has come with some direr warning about it. Tweens? Teens? College? She’s 28 now. She never has given me any hardships. Ever. So I hate the sweeping generalisations too.

Accurate across the board. The behavior that is "terrible" is directly related to self regulation and communication. Additionally, there is a tremendous amount of growth that occurs in these zones- baby to toddler, toddler to young child. and young child to older child. Also, the parenting makes a huge difference on if the child is taught how to 1- communicate their needs/ wants effectively, 2- regulate their emotions and witness their parents regulation as well and 3- understanding and experiencing the natural consequences of their choices instead of being sheltered from it. Every kid is different, because every home is different.

3’s are not fun. They get sassy and stubborn. 2’s just inquisitive. 4 and 5 are pretty fun if you handle the 3’s correctly.

Threenagers! Remember that. Also a phenomenon not talked about enough. The spring before kindergarten is act full. I’ve been teaching since 1996. I’ve always told this is just nature way of making it OK to send them off to kindergarten. By the time Kindergarten starts you’re ready to see them go. For the most the hardest age is based on the communication skills. Two can be really hard if they don’t have words. 345 can be hard if they have a lot of communication and want autonomy and independence, but the parents are not ready to give it to them. A balance is super important for both parties to be happy.

mine will be 2 next month but a lot of the tantrums are bc she doesn’t have the words yet. So once I know she knows how to tell me even if I know what she wants I tell her mama doesn’t understand whining I understand words use your words. Then she’ll tell me “more chips please” i follow up with “thank you for using your words nicely, yes mama can get you chips”
