@science.nature: ⚡️ Elon Musk wants to take on one of the world's toughest technology industries: chipmaking. Musk has openly admitted that he does not know how to manufacture computer chips. But that has not stopped him from pursuing Terafab, his ambitious semiconductor venture backed by Tesla and SpaceX. His approach is familiar: learn as the team builds. Musk pointed to his experience with cars and rockets, saying he started those challenges without knowing everything and believes his companies can figure out chip manufacturing too. His ambition goes even further. Musk says he would be disappointed if Terafab could not eventually make chips better than anyone else. Why does this matter? Advanced chips are essential for artificial intelligence, autonomous vehicles, robotics and future computing systems. Musk wants greater control over the supply of chips his businesses may need as those technologies expand. However, making advanced semiconductors is far more complicated than simply designing a chip. It requires specialized equipment, cleanroom facilities, precise manufacturing processes and years of technical expertise. Terafab is an ambitious plan, not proof that Musk's companies have already mastered chip production. Intel has been identified as a development partner, while discussions with Taiwan's TSMC have also attracted attention. Musk has said his companies intend to build and operate the facility themselves. Can Musk turn another unfamiliar industry into a major success? That remains to be seen. Do you believe Musk can become a major player in chipmaking, just as he has in electric vehicles and rockets? #AIChips #elonmuskofficial #Terafab #Semiconductor #ChipManufacturing
