Foster mama here, I once got a placement in the middle of the night on a holiday weekend. ALL of the information was incorrect when they brought these sweet babies, including gender and age. No biggie, however FOUR days later when we finally heard from someone and got paperwork, we had been calling this poor 2 yr old the wrong name. WHY were we the only ones that saw this as a problem?????

I adopted my nephew. Our social workers (we had so many) shared nothing about his prior homes, or history. Wasn’t until I went crazy in a court hearing demanding an adoption worker instead of another social worker who did nothing that I was able to get his records. It took me weeks maybe months to get through all the info. Mostly because my baby boy went through hell before he got to me. It’s a devastating read. I am so scared he might ask me for this info one day. I just want to protect him.

When my first foster kids were placed with me in 2018, I was told the wrong names and ages of them before they showed up. They were 15 and 16 at the time and had been in care for over a year. The system hasn’t gotten any better, just saying.

We just adopted our son (8 when we met him and he’s 10 now) from foster care in April of this year. I love seeing your videos. It’s a challenge to navigate how to answer questions about his past and we do our best but I’m so grateful to be able to hear your perspective. Thanks so much for sharing!
