The QB taking the time to do that. And I guarantee he’d do it for any teammate. There’s zero ego in this man’s body. Love having him on my team.

Jane Doe’s attorney told the Cornell Daily Sun that neither of them expected this case to ignite a national movement. And yet here we are. Protests. Walkouts. National headlines. Survivors coming forward. Hotline calls surging. Institutions suddenly discovering the vocabulary of “accountability” with the urgency of people who just realized everyone kept the receipts. But the woman at the center of all of it still does not feel safe enough to publicly tell her story under her own name. Sit with that contradiction. A movement bearing her anonymous name has traveled across the country while she remains anonymous because, according to her attorney, the environment around this case is still too dangerous. That is not some inspirational little footnote. That is an indictment of the environment surrounding this entire case. And then there is the GoFundMe. Supporters reportedly organized one to help compensate Jane for what she lost after leaving Cornell. She declined it. Her attorney says she wanted the money redirected to sexual-assault survivors instead, because in her view the people responsible for what she lost should be the ones paying for it. There is something almost painfully precise about that. She is not asking strangers on the internet to reimburse her for the consequences of institutional failure. She is saying accountability should travel backward to the people and systems responsible. Imagine that. Actual accountability. Not another committee. Not another “we are deeply committed” statement. Not another glossy webpage about campus safety. Not another outside review announced after the entire country starts asking what happened. Accountability means consequences landing where responsibility actually sits. And while Jane Doe is reportedly declining money and directing support toward other survivors, people are still debating whether she deserves belief, whether she should reveal herself, whether she said the perfect thing at the perfect time, whether she behaved exactly as strangers think a survivor should behave. Meanwhile the institutions around her had lawyers, policies, police, boards, administrators, procedures and every possible layer of professional protection. She had anonymity. And apparently, she still needs it. That should tell you something. A woman should not have to become a national symbol before institutions start examining whether their systems failed her. And she definitely should not have to become one while still being afraid to say her own name. #cornell7 #janedoe #campusaccountability #survivoradvocacy #institutionalaccountability
