@lifecoachglory: Hotel Receptionist: Ma’am, there’s a gentleman upstairs who says he’s your husband. Me: My husband? Receptionist: Yes. He gave us your name and room number. Me: I’m not married. She looked at her computer again. Receptionist: “He’s insisting that you sent him a message asking him to come.” Me: “I haven’t sent anybody a message!” She looked worried. Receptionist: “Would you like us to call security?” Me: “Yes, please.” While we waited, my phone rang. Unknown Number: “Hello, sweetheart. Why are you making this difficult?” Me: “Who is this?” Unknown Number: “It’s your husband. I’ve been standing outside your room for twenty minutes.” Me: “I’m calling the police.” He immediately hung up. The receptionist called security, and two guards went upstairs. About five minutes later, one of them returned. Security Guard: “Ma’am, we need you to look at something.” Me: “What happened?” He showed me a photograph on his phone. It was a picture of me standing outside a supermarket. I was shocked. Me: “Where did you get that?” Security Guard: “The gentleman had it on his phone.” Then he showed me another picture. This time, I was sitting inside a restaurant with a man I had never seen before. I started feeling genuinely uncomfortable. Then the receptionist looked at the photograph again and said, Receptionist: “Wait a minute. I know that man.”Me: “You know him?” Receptionist: “Yes. He checked into this hotel yesterday with another woman.” I stared at her. Me: “Then why is he calling himself my husband?” She shook her head. Receptionist: “I don’t know, but I’m going to find out.” She called the room where he had been staying. A few minutes later, she put down the phone. Receptionist: “He checked out this morning.” Me: “So how did he get my room number?” She looked at the security guard. Security Guard: “He told us he was your husband and showed us your photograph.” I couldn’t understand what was happening. Then my phone rang again. This time, it was my best friend. Me: “Please tell me you know someone called Daniel.” She went quiet. Friend: “Why are you asking?” I explained everything. She suddenly started laughing. Me: “What is funny?” Friend: “That man is my cousin. He’s been trying to find you because he picked up your handbag by mistake at the restaurant yesterday.” I paused. Me: “My handbag?” Friend: “Yes. Your phone number and hotel booking confirmation were inside. He was trying to return your things, but apparently, he’s terrible at explaining himself.” I closed my eyes in relief. Me: “Then why did he say he was my husband?” My friend went silent. Friend: “Oh, that’s because I told him to say he was your relative so the hotel would take him seriously.” I stared at the ceiling. Me: “You told a stranger to pretend to be my husband?” She started apologising. I hung up and looked at the receptionist. Me: “Please, next time somebody claims to be my husband, ask for a marriage certificate.” The receptionist burst out laughing. I had spent twenty minutes preparing to report a dangerous stranger, only to discover my best friend had turned a handbag return into a family drama.
