where I grew up the school cancellations were announced at 6am on the radio. My mom also got us all up for school around 6:45/7am So when we knew a storm was coming my mom would wake up to hear the radio. If school was closed she would go back to bed and we would all sleep in until about 8-9am. she would make bacon and eggs (usually only a sunday breakfast but she would do it on snow days) for everyone and hot chocolate. Then I personally would go outside to play in the snow if it had calmed down a little. In my area we get heavy winters so if school was bad it was usually because the storm was so bad you couldn't see. If the snow was still raging my mom and I would do a puzzle together with a hot cup of tea while my siblings either played in their rooms or watch tv in the basement. They didn't enjoy puzzles so that was something special my mom and I did. Sometimes my dad would come to the kitchen and the 3 of us would play cards and my dad would swear I jinxed him which was why he lost (my mom is just a pro lol). Then my mom would make us all soup for lunch. By then if the snow calmed she would get my siblings to start shoveling the deck so that it didnt pile up too high. I remember wanting to help but I have spine issues and the motions and weight of shoveling could really damage my back. If it was still snowing too hard we would go back to our puzzle. Then if the snow calmed by dinner we would drive into town and get mcdonalds or go to ponderosa. God I miss ponderosa, best buffet to ever exist. Then come back home and watch a movie. If snow wasn't calmed my mom and dad would make a normal meal then we wojld all watch a movie. I miss those snow days honestly.

all of us kids would run to my granny's soon as we found out school was canceled and watch cartoons and then go sleigh riding till lunch and then go back to granny's for lunch and then go back out i wish I could go back to those days and just stay their and forever be a kid
