If you had told me a few years ago that I’d be making soap for my family out of tallow from a local farm, I probably would have had a LOT of questions. And now? It's the only soap we use and I genuinely don’t want anything else in our shower. A lot of that started with my son. His skin has always been incredibly sensitive and he struggled with eczema for years, so I learned pretty quickly that just because something says “gentle” or “for sensitive skin” on the bottle doesn’t necessarily mean his skin is going to agree. Once we started simplifying what we used on him, tallow became one of those ingredients I just kept coming back to. And eventually it hit me, why are we working so hard to calm and moisturize his skin with tallow, only to bathe him with a soap that irritates it all over again? So, naturally, I became the person making old-fashioned tallow soap in my kitchen. And I cannot explain how GOOD a really simple tallow bar of soap feels. The lather is rich and creamy and somehow feels almost luxurious, even though there’s nothing complicated about it. Our unscented bar is made with grass-fed and finished tallow from a local regenerative farm here in Pennsylvania, and I love that I know exactly where it came from. When I’m using something from head to toe on my own kids, that kind of simplicity and sourcing just means a lot to me. It’s what I use on my son’s sensitive skin, and it’s gentle enough that I started using it on my youngest when she was just a tiny baby. And apparently I’ve turned everyone around me into tallow-soap people too because my friends and family are constantly asking if I have another bar they can take home. Once you get used to stepping out of the shower with skin that just feels soft, comfortable and clean instead of like it’s immediately begging for lotion... regular soap is a pretty hard sell.
