@tavelarocque: praying is for the weak. which is exactly why all of us should be doing it. it’s meant as an insult and it lands as one because it’s accurate. it just isn’t the objection people think it is. prayer is an admission that you’re not sufficient. that’s not a side effect of it, that’s the content. so when somebody says it’s for the weak, they’re not exposing anything. they’re reciting the first line. paul says it outright: my strength is made perfect in weakness. he says that about a prayer of his own that went unanswered. and the night before he died, in a garden, the figure christians consider the strongest person who ever lived prayed in agony and asked for it to be taken away from him. so either the category is wrong, or strength is not the thing we’ve been told it is. #faith #orthodox #philosophy #prayer
