@ravenhawk.echo: October 9th Michael Lawrence Collins, 38 years old, North Tower 103rd floor Michael Lawrence Collins was born on October 9, 1962 to Mary and James Collins. He had a brother, Richard, and a sister, Nancy. He grew up in Irvington, NY, and lived in Montclair, NJ, in adulthood. Michael attended and graduated from Oswego State College in 1984. He met his sweetheart, Lissa Collins, in Lake Placid in 1990 while on a skiing trip with a friend. Lissa remembered, “It was true fate that we happened to be at the same place at the same time. We went six and a half hours to meet each other only to find out we only lived 30 minutes away from each other in the city.” Michael and Lissa fell in love and were married on March 22, 1997. They had a very sweet and loving relationship together. Lissa said, “He was extremely thoughtful and sentimental. Every girl’s dream.” Michael and Lissa lived together in Montclair with their two dogs, Daisy Mae and Billy, and often talked of growing old together. Michael had plans of one day retiring in Hawaii, where Lissa had grown up. They regularly went back to Hawaii together to visit Lissa’s family, and Michael loved sleeping on the beach when they did. Michael had also had a love of outdoor sports, which included skiing, rock climbing, snowboarding, white water rafting, mountain biking, and kayaking. He had suffered from diabetes since he was a child, but never let it slow him down and was always looking for new adventures. Michael enjoyed working on home improvement projects on the weekends and would also volunteer to help neighbors with their own home projects and yardwork. He was described by his friends and family as caring, hardworking, friendly, and fun. Michael worked as a manager for Cantor Fitzgerald’s subsidiary, eSpeed, on the 103rd floor of the World Trade Center’s North Tower. He had worked for the firm for 15 years and also spent time in their Tokyo offices. On the morning of September 11, 2001, Michael was working on the 103rd floor when Flight 11 struck the North Tower, leaving his floor and all of Cantor’s offices above the impassable impact zone. None of the firm’s attending employees survived the attack, including Michael. Though this life was unfairly taken on September 11th, Michael lives on forever in the great memories he made while he was here and the vibrant legacy he leaves behind. He will never be forgotten. Happy heavenly birthday, WE WILL NEVER FORGET. ❤️🕊
